As an educator, I firmly believe that self-awareness is the foundation for a learner-centered approach. By reflecting on my own values, I can create an environment where both teaching and learning thrive. The values I hold in my teaching practice (thoughtfulness, confidence, humility, integrity, empathy, and understanding) guide me in fostering a safe, inclusive space. This, in turn, inspires students to develop a genuine passion for learning.
In my role as a teacher, I aim to do more than just deliver content. I strive to motivate and encourage my students, instill confidence, and inspire deeper thinking. I believe in empowering students with the tools they need to continue learning independently, even beyond the classroom. While there is endless material available to be taught, my focus is on fostering an approach that instills confidence and curiosity in students, encouraging them to push their own boundaries and continue growing.
For adults, the best learning experiences are those that are welcoming, thoughtfully planned, and adapted over time. Collaborative, creative experiences lead to those memorable ‘Aha’ moments where deeper thinking and understanding blossom. I’ve learned that feedback, engagement, and self-reflection are critical components of any learning environment. Self-reflection, in particular, ensures that learning becomes purposeful and not forgotten.
As a teacher, I bring qualities such as positivity, creativity, energy, and passion into my classroom. Teaching has always been my calling, and it’s a role I embrace fully. My own career path wasn’t always clear, and I struggled at times to find the right direction. Through teaching, I found my passion, and I want to use my experiences to help others discover their own paths.
I believe that as I continue to grow and evolve as an educator, I’ll be most effective as I continue to embrace learning myself. The educational landscape is always shifting, and I aim to stay adaptable, refining my skills to meet the changing needs of students. My goal is for students to leave my courses not only with new knowledge but also with the confidence to continue learning and sharing their experiences with others.
In the field of dental assisting, where frustration can often lead to high turnover, I want to instill values in future professionals that will encourage growth and progress within the industry. Continuous education and adaptation are key to overcoming challenges and pushing the profession forward.
I consider my strengths as a teacher to be my ability to connect with others and my use of real-life examples to make learning meaningful. Watching students successfully apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting is one of the most rewarding aspects of teaching. I’m committed to growing through mentorship from fellow instructors and learning from the challenges each class presents.
Every day brings new opportunities for growth, both for me and for my students.
